It's a common heart condition, but surprisingly not well known. WPW, otherwise known as Wolff Parkinson White syndrome, is a heart condition related to the electrical system of the heart. With WPW, you have extra nerve pathways than you should have, and this can often lead to problems when it's activated. One of the common solutions to having this problem is having an ablation: a type of surgical procedure where they put a catheter up your veins and into your heart, find the nerves that shouldn't be there, and burn them so they can't be activated anymore.
I want to tell you about this because I waited ten years after I was diagnosed and told by my doctor I needed an ablation to actually get it. Those ten years were horrible for me- they caused me mental health crises, medication problems, and just generally the palpitations and tachycardia hurt in my chest. When I finally went to get the procedure, they found THREE pathways to destroy! That's far more than expected!
And that's why I wanted to tell you about this. If you have WPW, don't wait ten years to get your ablation if the doctor says to get it. Just get it over with. It saves a lot of hassle, and it's a lot safer the younger you are. It's not the most comfortable procedure you can get (I'm happy to detail my experience if desired) but... It's really worth it. I regret waiting. It would've solved so many problems- which it has now, only later in life.
